ORB CARE, the service ministry of Outreach Red Bank, concentrates on serving those outside of ORB's immediate community, especially those who are poor and in need. We believe that we are all God's children, and that we are called to serve others as Christ served us. Check out the ORB CARE Blog for constant updates and look below to see what ORB CARE is currently working on:
Taking Sunday Service Outside Our Walls
A small group of volunteers delivers ORB's Sunday service to those who physically cannot make it to the building, whether because of sickness, old age, disabilities, etc. The group takes time to be silent, to sing songs, to talk about God's teachings, and to give communion. The opportunity to worship God is something that we see as a true blessing, and it is simply too great to keep within our walls.
Food Drive/Volunteer for Our Local Soup Kitchen
ORB CARE collects canned goods and other non-perishable items for the local Red Bank soup kitchen Lunch Break. People can take paper bags, collect items from their homes or workplaces, and bring them back the next Sunday. Also, every Monday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., a group of volunteers helps prepare meals, organize cans, and serve food at Lunch Break.
Preparing a Meal for the Sick
The Ronald McDonald House of Long Branch provides a safe, comfortable, supportive haven "for the families of seriously ill children undergoing medical treatment at area hospitals. A group of volunteers prepares dinner at the facility for a family the first Tuesday of every month.
Make Loans that Change Lives
ORB CARE has a lending team with Kiva, a non-profit website that allows you to lend as little as $25 to a specific low-income entrepreneur in the developing world. You choose who to lend to - whether a baker in Afghanistan, a goat herder in Uganda, a farmer in Peru, a restaurateur in Cambodia, or a tailor in Iraq - and as they repay the loan, you get your money back. Contact chris@theorb.org if you want to join, or check out Kiva if you're curious.
Joint Project with Local Soup Kitchen
ORB CARE is planning a big collaboration with the Red Bank soup kitchen Lunch Break and possibly other churches and organizations in the community starting in the fall/winter time. We are looking to distribute lunches to the poor and needy while Lunch Break is closed on the weekends.
Service Trip Addressing Poverty in U.S.
ORB CARE is hoping to plan a week-long service trip for next summer to an impoverished community in the United States, complementing the ORB service team that goes to the Dominican Republic.
